If you are an act looking for representation, please read the following. It is intended to help you with some useful pointers and to save you wasting time and materials by applying to inappropriate agencies. We can not over-emphasise that it is worth your time investment to find out what each agency you are thinking of approaching does and which markets it operates in. We do not respond to enquiries which take the form "We are the best blahblah style act you've ever seen. Represent us." Or words to that effect. Sadly, we receive lots of them. The vast majority of the agents we know behave similarly. If you know any agents and they can not help you directly, we do talk to each other. Ask the ones you know which agents will be able to help you.

Firstly, here are some things we do not do, to save you reading all the way to the bottom before you find out if you are wasting your time approaching New Hive. We do not organise tours of jazz clubs, rock venues, pubs or undertake similar activities. We do not take on club acts. There are some excellent agencies we know personally, and probably many we do not, who do all of these things. You need to research which agencies represent what you do and to approach them directly.

New Hive is a well established agency. We started off representing only jazz musicians and jazz vocalists trained to degree level and we have retained our relationship with many of those people as they have matured and their repertoire and skills have grown with experience and practice. Simlarly, we have come to know exponents of other music forms and non-music acts and can assure our clients we deal only with dedicated professionals.

For us to represent you, we have to be assured, not only of your performing skills, but also your levels of presentation and reliability. If your act is new, please do not feel unwelcome by what has been said so far. We are as keen to promote fresh talent as we are to keep the faith with our more established acts. From our clients' point of view, they are relying on us to produce the goods on time and looking the part for their selected guests. It is this point we wish to emphasise. Our continuing good reputation is reliant upon your professionalism as well as our own.

If you feel your performance fits well within the high quality private and corporate function market, which is where we are firmly settled, you can show evidence that you present yourselves in a manner suited to that market and just as importantly as the first two criteria, are reliable in presenting yourselves to be set up, rehearsed, sound checked and on stage at the times agreed for the engagement, please send us a copy of your promotional materials. One other area we operate in is the cruise market. If you wish to perform on cruise ships, be prepared to start with the longer cruise engagements, certainly 6 months minimum and possibly longer. You will need to audition and we will need full details of what you do prior to arranging the audition.
